About the Acupuncturist
Lauren Saputelli, DACM, L.Ac. is a doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese medicine, licensed by the state of California, and certified in integrative sports medicine. She received a B.A. in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, a Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine from the highly regarded Five Branches University, and a doctorate from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine.
The masters program at Five Branches is a rigorous one of over 3200 hours, including studies in Chinese Medicine Theory, Acupuncture, Chinese Herbs and Formulas, Western Medicine, and Clinical Training. Lauren completed clinical internships in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Sports Injury, Mental Health, and Facial Rejuvenation, as well as a 3 week externship in China. Since obtaining her license, she has continued her quest for knowledge with continuing education in Orthopedics, Aroma Acupoint Therapy, Women's Health, Prenatal Care, and more, and also earned a doctorate degree.
In her youth, Lauren was a ballet dancer for 8 years, an equestrian rider, and a competitive equestrian vaulter (gymnastics on horseback) for 11 years. Her innate love of athleticism and years of intense physical training were an inspiration to not only care for the body in time of injury, but also preventatively.
Lauren loves combining the tradition and theory of Chinese medicine with modern science, and continuously observes the overlap between the two. She appreciates the comprehensive nature of the medicine, observing the duality and interconnectedness of mind and body, and how one can affect the other, as well as the physiological and mechanical changes caused by gently placing a needle in the body. She has had a private practice in Santa Cruz since 2008, and also worked part time in a multidisciplinary occupational medicine clinic for 6 years.
